South Valley Tour: Tipon, Piquillacta and Andahuaylillas

For the South Valley Tour, you can choose your pick up from your hotel at 9:00am or 1:00pm.

Our first stop of the day: Andahuaylillas, where we will visit the Saint Peter church of Andahuaylillas, often referred to as the Sistine Chapel of America. Church built by the Jesuits. Its contstruction started at the end of the 16th century and completed at the beginning of the 17th century.

The architectural structure is typical for village churches. Built with wide walls, like all the colonial buildings, due to the sun-dried bricks of adobe. The decoration of the facade includes magnificent murals, and two large stone columns at the main entrance.

Although it appears relatively modest, the inside decoration is where it garners its reputation as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas. We will see murals inside, from the artist Luis de Riaño (17th century).

After we visit the church, we will continue our journey towards the Pre-Inca archaeological site of Piquillacta, where we explore the multiple structures of the pre-Inca Wari culture, surrounded by mountains and lakes.

Afterwards, we will head to the interesting archeological site of Tipon, where we will see the best of Inca hydraulic systems. Our guide will explain all there is to know about this interesting site, before we continue on to our final stop.

Finally, we will return to the village of Tipon. These town if famous for its baked guinea pig. Guinea pig is a traditional dish of the region of Cusco. We will make a quick stop to sample it and then we are on our way back to your hotel in Cusco, arriving around 1:00pm for the morning tour or 5:00pm for the afternoon.
