The Andean Awakening

Your journey begins with a 4:30 AM private pickup from your Cusco hotel, followed by a scenic 2.5–3 hour drive into the Mollepata Valley, where the high Andes gradually transition into dramatic glacier country. Early departure ensures we reach the trailhead before crowds and maximise daylight for the full mountain crossing.

Fueling the Ascent

We arrive in Mollepata for a hearty breakfast, prepared by the trekking chef. After a short break, we continue by private transport for approximately 40 minutes to Soraypampa (3,900 m), the official trailhead framed by the towering peaks of Salkantay (6,217 m) and Humantay (4,200 m).

The Path of the 7 Snakes

The ascent begins along the iconic Seven Snakes trail, a steep switchback climb lasting approximately 3.5–4 hours. The route steadily gains altitude through rugged moraine terrain with increasingly expansive glacier views.

You reach Salkantay Pass (4,630–4,650 m) around mid-morning (~9:30–10:30 AM), where the full scale of the Vilcabamba range opens in a 360° alpine panorama.

Optional: The Humantay Detour

For those selecting the optional add-on, a short detour (pre or post ascent depending on conditions) leads toward the turquoise Humantay Lake, accessed via horseback (~45 minutes, optional USD 70). This provides a quieter alternative viewpoint of the glacier basin beneath Humantay peak.

Descent into the Cloud Forest

After a brief summit pause, we begin a 2.5–3 hour descent, transitioning from frozen high-altitude terrain into the first signs of the cloud forest. At Huayracmachay, a gourmet 3-course lunch is served in a sheltered mountain valley setting.

Arrival at Collpapampa Sky Camp

The trek continues for another 2.5–3 hours descent and traverse into the lush Lucmabamba Valley system, arriving at Collpapampa (2,900 m approx.) in the late afternoon.

Here you settle into the Sky Dome camp experience, surrounded by dense green canyon walls and river-fed cloud forest ecosystems.

Sky Dome Experience

At camp, guests stay in fully equipped Sky Domes, combining wilderness immersion with upgraded comfort in the high jungle environment.

  • Private dome accommodation with real beds
  • En-suite bathroom facilities with hot showers
  • Electricity and Wi-Fi access (weather dependent)
  • Panoramic glass dining dome overlooking the valley
  • Optional sauna and jacuzzi recovery facilities

Evening Briefing & Dinner

A detailed briefing prepares you for the Llactapata and Machu Picchu viewpoint route on Day 2, followed by a gourmet multi-course dinner prepared by the trekking chef in the dining dome.

The day begins with a hot drink delivered to your Sky Dome, followed by a fresh breakfast before a short transfer or descent into Lucmabamba (2,000–2,100 m), where the environment shifts into tropical jungle and coffee-growing terrain.

Lucmabamba Ascent Trail

From Lucmabamba, we begin a 2.5–3 hour ascent along original Inca pathways, passing coffee plantations, orchids, and dense subtropical vegetation as we climb toward the ridge line.

Llactapata Viewpoint

At the ridge, we reach the archaeological site of Llactapata, one of the most unique viewpoints in the Andes. From here, you get a rare frontal panorama of Machu Picchu across the valley, framed by surrounding peaks.

Time is given to explore the terraces and ceremonial structures before continuing descent.

Descent to Hidroeléctrica

We descend for approximately 2–2.5 hours into the valley floor, arriving at Hidroelectrica, where a riverside gourmet lunch is served.

Final Walk to Aguas Calientes

The final leg is a 2.5–3 hour scenic walk along the railway and Vilcanota River, leading into the cloud-forest town of Aguas Calientes.

Upon arrival, you check into a 3-star hotel and have time to rest.

Evening in Aguas Calientes

The guys were very efficient throughout the trip and attentive when we arrived at the campsite. The kitchen service was super delicious , the food quality and healthy, dishes suitable for people (vegans) and a buffet that has nothing to envy others.
Their kindness and efficiency are greatly appreciated for this journey to the Inca Way.

We had a great experience doing the 4d3n Inca Trail. Our porters were so hard working and made sure our tents and equipment were always ready for us. The chef Mario was outstanding and prepared restaurant quality vegetarian food everyday. Our guide Carlos made the trip exceptional, always making sure we were informed and making sure we were all enjoying the trail. He went above and beyond to encourage me when I was unwell. He made the trip the best ever. A beautiful and wonderful trek.
