Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 5 Days
Snapshot! Our 5-Day Inca Trail trek is designed for those who want to savor every step. Trading the very early morning wake-up calls for more peaceful mornings, quiet campsites, and the luxury of exploring hidden Inca ruins with more time. The Classic 4-Day Inca Trail is still the undisputed heavyweight champion in terms of name recognition. However, the 5-Day version is rapidly becoming the insider’s choice for 2026.
The 5-day program is an excellent alternative to avoid most of the crowds found on the 4 day classical route and to reach quieter, more beautiful campsites. It is also recommended for families with children and mature adults, as it gives an extra day for acclimatization to the altitude and the daily walking distance is shorter because its spread out better and by adding just 24 hours to the journey, you trade the 4:00 AM crowds for sunset views and hidden ruins that remain a secret to the rest of the world.
Please review the live Inca Trail permit availability to ensure your preferred or backup departure dates are open. We invite you to explore our signature experience, from our top-tier trekking gear and essential packing guide to the gourmet organic meals our clients love about us!
Standard-comfortable mid-tier accommodation. Comfortable camping with private chef and a portable toilet. Modern vehicles with private driver.
Some steep inclines at high altitudes, that can be regarded as strenuous. With sufficient pre-trail training, its easily achievable.
Hiking, trekking, and camping.

Expert Trekking Pro-Tips
- The 25L Rule: Machu Picchu regulations strictly prohibit bags larger than 25L. Use your provided 7kg duffel for heavy gear to keep your daypack compact and compliant.
- Footwear Wisdom: Never start the Inca Trail in brand-new boots. Ensure your hiking boots are well broken-in before arriving in Cusco.
- The “Hiker’s Shower”: Biodegradable wet wipes are your best friend on the trail. They are the most efficient way to refresh before your gourmet dinner.
- Pack for 5 Days: Since you have an extra day on the trail, ensure you have enough clean socks! Dry feet are the secret to a happy trek.
The Pre-Trek Briefing: Final Preparation
Your journey begins with a mandatory Pre-Trek Briefing at our Cusco office at 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM the night before your departure.

Orange Nation Pro Tips For the 5 Day Inca Trail To Machu Picchu
- Acclimatize in Cusco: Spend at least 48 hours in Cusco before Day 1. While the 5-day pace is gentler, your body needs this time to prepare for the 4,215 m (13,828ft) summit at Dead Woman’s Pass.
- The Golden Hour Strategy: On Day 4, you’ll arrive at the Sun Gate in the late afternoon. This is your best chance for a near-empty, private photo of Machu Picchu after the 4-day crowds and day-trippers have already left.
- Keep Electronics Warm: High-altitude cold drains batteries fast. Sleep with your phone and power bank inside your sleeping bag at night to ensure they have enough charge for your sunrise photos the next morning.

The guys were very efficient throughout the trip and attentive when we arrived at the campsite. The kitchen service was super delicious , the food quality and healthy, dishes suitable for people (vegans) and a buffet that has nothing to envy others.
Their kindness and efficiency are greatly appreciated for this journey to the Inca Way.

We had a great experience doing the 4d3n Inca Trail. Our porters were so hard working and made sure our tents and equipment were always ready for us. The chef Mario was outstanding and prepared restaurant quality vegetarian food everyday. Our guide Carlos made the trip exceptional, always making sure we were informed and making sure we were all enjoying the trail. He went above and beyond to encourage me when I was unwell. He made the trip the best ever. A beautiful and wonderful trek.

Hiking the Short Inca Trail was hands-down one of the highlights of my entire trip to Peru. This trek is the perfect option if you want a taste of the iconic Inca Trail without committing to the full 4-day hike.
From the moment we started the hike at KM 104 Carlos our guide was amazing and patient. we were surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, lush cloud forests, and fascinating Inca ruins. The trail itself is moderately challenging—expect a steady incline, stone steps, and a bit of cardio—but it’s absolutely doable for anyone with a decent fitness level. The sense of accomplishment when you reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) and get your first glimpse of Machu Picchu is
