Full Itinerary

A Gentle Start to Your Adventure

Your 5-day immersion into the heart of the Inca Empire begins with a 7:00 AM pickup from your hotel lobby in Cusco. We embark on a scenic drive in our private van through the picturesque villages of Chinchero and Urubamba, winding through the Sacred Valley toward the official trailhead at Piskacucho (KM 82). After the rangers verify your permits and you meet your dedicated support team of porters and chefs, we cross the Vilcanota bridge and officially step onto the legendary Inca Trail.

Ancient Ruins and Riverside Dining

The first leg of our journey follows relatively flat terrain along the river, offering humbling views of ragged Andean peaks. After a 3-hour hike, we reach the majestic archaeological site of Patallacta. Here, we stop for your first fresh organic meal prepared by our chefs in the shadow of ancient stone ruins. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the sprawling terraces and buildings of Patallacta at a relaxed pace before settling into our nearby campsite for a sunset tea and a nourishing dinner.

  • The Journey covers a 6km (3.7 miles) gentle introduction along the Vilcanota River.
  • The Timing initiates with a 07:00 AM private hotel pickup for a relaxed expedition start.
  • The Heritage provides extended time to explore the sprawling terraces of Patallacta.
  • The Advantage establishes our first camp early for a tranquil afternoon of acclimatization.

  • The Lodging provides private tents and warm wash water in the shadow of Incan ruins.

Acclimatization and Cloud Forests

Day 2 is designed for slow travel to ensure you are perfectly acclimated for the higher passes ahead. Your guide will wake you at 6:30 AM with a hot cup of coca tea served right to your tent. After a hearty breakfast, we begin a steady trek through the Kusichaca Valley, a vibrant corridor of unique flora and fauna. We arrive at Wayllabamba for a chef-prepared lunch, resting our legs before the afternoon’s moderate ascent.

Winding Through the Llullucha Valley Following lunch, we begin a 4-hour uphill trek through the enchanting Llullucha Valley. The trail winds through ancient Polylepis forests, where the air grows cooler and the views more expansive. We reach our second campsite at Llulluchapampa (3,800m) in the late afternoon. Our team will have your tents ready and appetizers waiting, allowing you to relax and watch the clouds roll over the valley before enjoying another scrumptious multi-course dinner.

  • The Journey covers an 11km (6.8 miles) steady climb through the enchanted Polylepis forests.
  • The Timing allows for a 06:30 AM wake-up with hot coca tea served to your tent.

  • The Safety features twice-daily oxygen and pulse oximeter checks for every trekker.
  • The Lodging settles at Llulluchapampa for a sunset dinner far above the valley noise.

The Peak of the Journey

Today is the most challenging and visually stunning day of the trek. After an early breakfast, we tackle a 2-hour uphill push to reach the trail’s highest point: Warmiwañusca, better known as Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215m). From this triumphant summit, you will enjoy 360-degree views of majestic snow-capped peaks and deep green valleys before descending for two hours to Pacaymayu for a well-deserved lunch.

The Town in the Clouds

The adventure continues as we ascend the second pass, visiting the circular ruins of Runkurakay (3,800m) along the way. After crossing the Runcurakay Pass (3,977m), we descend into the lush high-altitude rainforest to explore the fortress of Sayacmarca. Our final two hours of hiking lead us to Phuyupatamarca (3,650m), the “Town in the Clouds.” This campsite offers one of the most iconic views of the entire trail, overlooking the Urubamba Canyon and the distant peaks surrounding Machu Picchu.

  • The Journey covers a 13km (8 miles) technical push over the two highest Andean passes.
  • The Summit conquers Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215m) and Runcurakay (3,950m) at your own pace.
  • The Heritage explores the unique circular ruins of Runcurakay and the Sayacmarca fortress.

  • The Safety provides WFR-certified lead support with medical-grade oxygen on the crest.
  • The Lodging positions your tent above the clouds for a 360° panoramic mountain sunset.

Hidden Wonders of the Cloud Forest

This morning offers the most anticipated moments of the trail. We descend a series of ancient Inca stairs toward the agricultural terraces of Intipata before reaching the stunning site of Wiñay Wayna (2,650m). Often called the Mini Machu Picchu, these incredibly well-preserved ruins are a highlight of the trek. After a final celebratory lunch with our trekking team, we enjoy a guided tour of the site before the final push toward the citadel.

The First Glimpse of the Citadel

A final hour of hiking brings us to Intipunku, the Sun Gate (2,720m). Here, you will join an elite group of travelers who witness the breathtaking view of the Machu Picchu Citadel from above. A sight exclusive to Inca Trail hikers. After soaking in the panoramic views from the Upper Terrace (Circuit 1) and taking the classic postcard photos, we take the first of our three shuttle bus rides down to Aguas Calientes for a restful night’s sleep.

  • The Journey covers an 11km (6.8 miles) descent into the lush sub-tropical cloud forest.
  • The Timing ensures a sunset Sun Gate arrival to bypass the 500-person morning rush.
  • The Heritage explores the Forever Young Wiñay Wayna ruins without the midday crowds.
  • The Summit delivers the first iconic view of the Citadel during the tranquil afternoon light.
  • The Advantage trades a 4:00 AM wake-up call for a quiet, crowd-free sunset reveal.
  • The Culinary features a final celebratory trail lunch with our professional mountain crew.
  • The Lodging provides a comfortable hotel stay in Aguas Calientes for a night of recovery.

Sunrise and Sacred History

This is the grand finale! After an early breakfast at your hotel, we use the second of our three shuttle bus tickets to reach the sanctuary and witness the sunrise over the ancient stone city. Your expert guide will lead you on a private 2-hour tour of Circuit 3 (The Royalty Way), revealing the secrets of the Sun Temple, the Royal Houses, and the primary residential quarters. If you have pre-booked a permit, you will have time to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for an even higher perspective of the wonder.

The Scenic Return

After your tour, take the final shuttle bus to town before boarding the Expedition Train to Ollantaytambo. • The Timing initiates with a sunrise bus to the Sanctuary for the first morning light.

The guys were very efficient throughout the trip and attentive when we arrived at the campsite. The kitchen service was super delicious , the food quality and healthy, dishes suitable for people (vegans) and a buffet that has nothing to envy others.
Their kindness and efficiency are greatly appreciated for this journey to the Inca Way.

We had a great experience doing the 4d3n Inca Trail. Our porters were so hard working and made sure our tents and equipment were always ready for us. The chef Mario was outstanding and prepared restaurant quality vegetarian food everyday. Our guide Carlos made the trip exceptional, always making sure we were informed and making sure we were all enjoying the trail. He went above and beyond to encourage me when I was unwell. He made the trip the best ever. A beautiful and wonderful trek.

Hiking the Short Inca Trail was hands-down one of the highlights of my entire trip to Peru. This trek is the perfect option if you want a taste of the iconic Inca Trail without committing to the full 4-day hike.

The trail itself is moderately challenging—expect a steady incline, stone steps, and a bit of cardio—but it’s absolutely doable for anyone with a decent fitness level. The sense of accomplishment when you reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) and get your first glimpse of Machu Picchu is
